Volunteer

Volunteers are welcome at the farm’s work parties on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1 – 3pm and every 2nd Saturday of the month from 10am until 2pm. During the Saturday work parties we invite you to stay for lunch, sharing a pot luck. A wonderful way to learn hands-on about what’s involved in community organic farming.

Our Volunteer Needs:

If you can help with any of the following, please email or phone us (Voice mail: 250-658-0758) to let us know:

  • Sign Poster: All summer our farmstand overflows with gorgeous organic fruit and vegetables, and every year people show up saying they had no idea we were there: help to show them the way by coming out at the beginning and end of the day and putting up and taking down strategically-posted signs.
  • Farmstand volunteers: We’re always looking for friendly faces to sit on the farmstand to greet and sell our beautiful food. We have some volunteers slotted in, but would like to hear from you if you can come for a couple of hours between 11-6, Wednesday through Saturday from May till October. Whether you can help out for a few weeks or all summer, we’d love to hear from you.
  • Grass Cutter: We need someone to help us cut the grass around the farm so we can focus on growing food. If you’ve got a riding mower, we’ll buy the gas! We’re also looking for someone with mechanical skills who knows how to maintain mowers.
  • Membership Secretary:  Our Board values the services of a dedicated membership secretary, to update our membership list and to recruit new members.
  • Treat  Angel:  A wonderful way to support local agriculture by providing a plate of nutrition for  hungry volunteers and farmers during work party days:  2nd Saturday of the month and every Tuesday and Wednesday between 1 and 3.  Please contact the farm if you’re interested in providing treats.
  • Volunteer Growers during work parties: A great way to help out is at one of our work parties.  We’ll get you working on the farm doing whatever currently needs to be done, and you’ll probably have tons of fun along the way!  We’ll teach you what you need to know, but you should dress for the occasion.
  • General Handyperson: Handy in all ways around the house?  We could use someone with a variety of skills to help us restore and maintain the house that sits on the farm’s property.  We are developing it into an education centre and could use the skills of a handyperson in various ways.

If you have other skills you’d like to contribute, feel free to contact us to inquire.  We can always use more dedicated volunteers around the farm.

We value our volunteers and the Haliburton Community Organic Farm Society is a member of Volunteer Victoria. Search for Haliburton Farm at  VolWeb.ca .
